love_cover300

Love is a many-splendored thing, as comic artist Margreet de Heer has found out through several relationships and her marriage to fellow artist Yiri. How to describe it?

Is love passion, stability, friendship, or all of the above? In this comics exploration, the author investigates different aspects of love: is there really such a thing as finding The One? What happens in the brain when we fall in love? How can we keep long-term love? What to do about a broken heart? Margreet herself seems to have found her ideal partner in Yiri, but after so many years of marriage, how about that Seven Year Itch?

This book deals with many aspects of love, sex and relationships in a light-hearted, playful and often thought-provoking manner and is a fun and informative read for anyone who is in love or planning to be.

Also attending on behalf of NBM are Michael Cherkas and Larry Hancock who will on hand for the TCAF debut of The Silent Invasion Vol. 2: The Great Fear.

The paranoia and conspiracy theories continue! Beleaguered reporter Matt Sinkage’s quest to discover the truth behind an apparent, government-backed alien invasion of earth leads him to investigate a quasi-religious UFO cult based in an idyllic small American community.

Then the sudden death of a prominent politician paves the way for Senator Harrison Callahan to seek the Presidency of the United States.

But Sinkage, believing that Callahan is an alien pawn, is determined to stop him at all costs.

The Silent Invasion’s Lost Fridge Magnets

We’ll be at TCAF—the Toronto Comic Arts Festival—on May 11 and 12 promoting the newest volume in The Silent Invasion reprint series—The Great Fear. In the past when we were more active in the comic book field and attended the odd convention, we would bring promotional items as give aways for interested readers and fans. These “trinkets and trash” have included buttons, bookmarks, fridge magnets, flyers and mini-comics.

This year we’ll have a series of four brand new bookmarks we’re in the process of designing. Since TCAF is held at the Toronto Reference Library, we think the bookmarks are doubly-appropriate. Drop by the NBM table and Larry will regale you with tall tales of our misadventures at past conventions! We hope to see you there.

In the meantime, here are reproductions of the fridge magnets we produced a number of years ago.

Magnet artNext time we’ll give you a sneak preview of the opening pages of the new Silent Invasion “epic” slated for release next year.

The Silent Invasion at TCAF: Get your free bookmark!

One thing Michael Cherkas and I have always enjoyed is producing new promotional material to help people to remember our books. This year at TCAF (May 11 and 12, 2019 in Toronto) we will be handing out nifty bookmarks.

We have not yet finalized the design for this year’s bookmark but here are the back and front of a bookmark we did for our previous presence at TCAF in 2012!

Please come and see us at the NBM table at TCAF!

In my next blog post I will tell you about some of the other promotional material we have produced over the years! And we’ll soon be able to tell you about other stops on our 2019 World Tour!

NBM Heads to MoCCA Arts Festival

mocca.19.sliderOn April 6th & 7th, NBM Graphic Novels will be attending The MoCCA Arts Festival, a 2-day multimedia event and Manhattan’s largest independent comics, cartoon and animation festival, which draws over 7,000 attendees each year.

With 400 exhibiting artists displaying their work, award-winning honorees speaking about their careers and artistic processes and other featured artists conducting workshops, lectures and film screenings, the Festival mission accelerates the advancement of the Society’s broader mission to serve as Manhattan’s singular cultural institution promoting all genres of illustration through exhibitions, programs and art education.

This year, NBM and Papercutz will be premiering two titles at the show.

Appearing on behalf of NBM is Ted Rall, writer of THE YEAR OF LOVING DANGEROUSLY.

yearcover_300

It’s New York City in the 1980s and Ted Rall is in college. Everything is fine before his pranks, lack of focus and restlessness get him expelled. Unable to find a job and rejected by his parents, he considers suicide. By happenstance he finds comfort in the arms of many women as he bed-hops around the five boroughs. It’s better than homelessness, but the psychic toll of selling himself and his affection was higher than he imagined.

Both acidly funny and brutally honest, Rall, a cartoonist both beloved and reviled for his edgy politics, pours out his guts in this remembrance of this most difficult chapter in his life in this revised paperback edition.

Ted will be appearing at the NBM Booth (#D149-150B) throughout the show and will be signing during the following times:

Saturday

  • 11:00-12:30 PM
  • 2:00-3:30 PM
  • 5:00-6:30 PM

Sunday

  • 12:30- 2:00 PM
    3:30-5:00 PM

Also premiering from our sister company, Papercutz, is THE ONLY LIVING GIRL. Writer/co-creator David Gallaher will be in attendance.

Together they push back against the relentless Consortium, who want control of this new world at any cost. si_world_tour_revised

NBM Graphic Novels is extremely excited to announce that Michael Cherkas and Larry Hancock will be appearing at SPX: Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland on Saturday, September 15th and Brooklyn Book Festival on Sunday, September 16th to promote the return of their cult classic series, The Silent Invasion in a series of graphic novels that will reprint all of the previously released material as well as the series’ never before released final volume.

Truly ahead of it’s time, The Silent Invasion is a must-read for any comics fan.

The paranoid cult-classic science fiction mystery of the early days of indie comics returns! The series will begin with two books reprinting the original volumes, followed by the never before collected third album and concluding with an all-new fourth book of this epic series of conspiracy and paranoia. Set against the background of a nightmarish 1950s crawling with communist spies, corrupt FBI agents, McCarthyites, Stalinists, cold warriors, flying saucers, mysterious government organizations, The Silent Invasion weaves a byzantine tale of mystery and deceit as a bewildered investigative reporter Matt Sinkage pursues the truth behind an apparent alien invasion of earth that points to involvement at the highest levels of American government officials.
