The Forbidden Harbor

By Teresa Radice & Stefano Turconi

9781681122328

In the summer of 1807, The Explorer, a ship from Her Majesty’s Navy recovers a young shipwreck off the coast of Siam, Abel, who can only remember his name. He soon becomes friends with the first officer, acting as a captain because the commander of the ship has apparently absconded with the ship’s treasure. Abel returns to England with The Explorer and finds accommodation at the inn run by the three fugitive captain’s daughters. Well before he can recover his memory, however, he will discover something deeply disturbing about himself, and he will understand the true nature of some of the people who helped him.

A haunting and intense book that digs into the soul of the protagonists as well as the reader, with a generous helping of good ‘ole fashioned salty adventure along with many a shanty sung, and a sprinkling of magic dust. Presented in a handsome old style, worn-looking hardcover, as if taken from a ship captain’s library. An uplifting, enthralling escape.

7 ½ x 10 ½, 320pp., B&W with color sketchbook, old-fashioned hardcover, $29.99.

The Silent Invasion Vol.1: Red Shadows
By Michael Cherkas & Larry Hancock
Introduction by Max Allan Collins

9781681121741

In this era of fake news and ‘deep state’ this couldn’t be more timely! The paranoid cult-classic science fiction mystery of the early days of indie comics returns! The series will begin with two books reprinting the original volumes, followed by the never before collected third album and concluding with an all-new fourth book of this epic series of conspiracy and paranoia.

Set against the background of a nightmarish 1950s crawling with communist spies, corrupt FBI agents, McCarthyites, Stalinists, cold warriors, flying saucers, mysterious government organizations, The Silent Invasion weaves a byzantine tale of mystery and deceit as a bewildered investigative reporter Matt Sinkage pursues the truth behind an apparent alien invasion of earth that points to involvement at the highest levels of American government officials.

Whether it’s the Dark Lord or even a very uncompromising and very determined Marvin the Red, the new map must be found!
This sub-series presents guest stars including here Andreas, known for Rork and Capricorn.

Joann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, J-E. Vermot-Desroches, Yoann

Vulture sorcerer Horus, a ladykiller? Who knew? Yet, as the first story in this volume shows, he is accused of impregnating a slew of women. The second story takes a much lighter tone starring Grogro the big always hungry goofball seen in many stories before, especially in the Parade series. Here, he’s the hero, or at least tries to be, on a mission to fix a mess with a bunch of beer brewers. Question is: will he solve the problem… or just eat (and drink) it?

Dungeon: Twilight Vol. 4 – High Septentrion & The End of Dungeon

By Johann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, Alfred, Mazan

dung_twilight4_300

The last two stories of Dungeon!

In High Septentrion, there has been a violent eruption on the planet of Terra Amata. It’s a scramble to find breathable air, but the wizened blind, mystical dragon the Dust King (Marvin) thinks that it is perhaps time for him to die heroically. However the feisty young Marvin the Red refuses to give up and plans to find a way out of this mess, including finding a way to actually breathe… Art by Alfred of “Why I Killed Peter.”

And in The End of Dungeon the more the islets of the planet Terra Amata move upward, the less there is of breathable oxygen. While Marvin the Red and Zakutu, daughter of the Grand Khân, attempt to protect the seven objects of Destiny, Herbert and the Dust King are forced to swear allegiance to the Dark Entity in order to gain access to breathable air.
All things must come to an end and so it is with the great Dungeon.

NBM in February: More DUNGEON Monstres

logo

New to the DUNGEON series? Want to relive great moments before the release of DUNGEON MONSTRES VOL. 6? This month’s Diamond Previews samples some of the best the Dungeon series, and French comic artists as a whole, have to offer.

DUNGEON: Monstres tells stories of the secondary characters in the series, each drawn by a different well-known French artist. These stories can be read as standalone, but when read  in conjunction with the series, the overall takeaway is more enriching.

Review Round-Up! ZOMBILLENIUM Vol. 3! DUNGEON MONSTRES V. 5!

reviewnbm

Here’s what the critics are saying:

ZOMBILLENIUM Vol. 3: Control Freaks by Arthur de Pins

“Arthur de Pins has crafted another gorgeous addition to the fabulous Zombillenium series…With clever, witty writing and exquisite, imaginative art, the undead have never seemed more human.”

Foreword Reviews

Zombillenium is a horror comedy that occasionally gets a little bit dark. The writing is clever, the stories feature some of the most fun and personable monsters imaginable…I love Zombillenium and recommend it for readers of all ages.”

Tony’s Tips, Blog of Wonder (on Volume 2: Gretchen)

DUNGEON Monstres, vol.5: My Son the Killer by Joann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, Blutch, Frederic Bezian

“Sarcastic, funny, and sometimes brilliantly appalling, these books will appeal to fans of fantasy without happy endings, and without any continuity needed for understanding the story. Sex, violence, death, and sophisticated dilemmas make this two-story volume and others in the subseries for older teens and adults.”

NBM in June: More Dungeon Monstres

We may have seen the end of Dungeon in Twilight Vol. 4, last November.

BUT  there are many more stories to tell in this expansive world!

This June, NBM returns to DUNGEON with two more stories from Dungeon lore! DUNGEON MONSTRES retells great adventures of secondary characters. In DUNGEON MONSTRES VOL. 5 witness toddler Marvin the Dragon  meet the future Dungeon Keeper for the first time, setting up a partnership for years to come! This and more gruesome exploits of  The Night Shirt (from DUNGEON: THE EARLY YEARS) in “My Son the Killer”. Then,  in “Soldiers of Honor”, two brothers are put to the test of both blood and loyalty to their army’s cause. What happens next is tragic yet strikingly beautiful in its rendering.

Dungeon creators Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar return to provide the script with award winning artists Blutch and Frederic Bezian each illustrating a story.
