What a year it’s been – what a year to come… Here’s how Minnie and her girlfriend Mia feel about it:
And here’s the New Year’s card Yiri and I sent out:
On the left we listed main events of 2018: the death of our beloved cat Toto, my tattoo, a theater play, illustrations for a new book with Karel Eykman, lots of activities as Comic Artist Laureate, especially the publication of a guide for adding graphic novels to the Dutch Literature reading list in schools – and of course our new cats, Ronja and Loesje.
In 2019 we look forward to our tenth wedding anniversary, publication at NBM of the book on Love and lots of new, unknown things.
A good new year to all!
This year’s card features a background by famous Dutch illustrator Anton Pieck – it’s a view of the Schreierstoren in Amsterdam. There’s no skating on the canals at the moment, but hey, we can dream…

Here’s the New Year’s card Yiri and I have sent out this year – it’s based on a New Year’s card from 1917, exactly 100 years ago! It references voting because that’s what we’re going to do in The Netherlands in a few months.
Happy New Year to you all! Here are my comic musings on the Old & New…
You can also find these comics and others on my Tumblr-webcomic.
Here’s the New Year’s card Yiri and I made:
Yes, it’s a direct tribute to this famous Calvin & Hobbes strip by Bill Watterson:
What are we dancing about in the New Year? Well, for the pending publication of Religion: a Discovery in Comics, for starters. It will be out at NBM in Fall, and this is the cover:
This time we celebrate the New Year before Christmas!
Happy Holidays to everyone!
